Finally got in the studio..for a day.

Other than working in my sketchbook, which I am loving, I have not painted since the summer holiday. I finally got into the studio last weekend, and started this.
Early days.
 Needs work...and drying time.

From Our Hotel Window.

I managed to grab about a week and a half painting this summer, after our holiday. The rest of the time was spent decorating. This is one of the paintings that I managed to complete. Oil on canvas.
As yet untitled.

Small Oil Studies

These were painted a while ago now....before we moved into the studio, and came down with chronic cabin fever.

Grabbing The Odd Hour.

I am managing to snatch the odd hour here and there after school to paint. Whilst it is stopping me from going mad, it is also frustrating; I have to pack away as soon as I really get into it. It is also changing the way I am currently painting, because the paintings are drying before I can get back to work into them - less wet on wet.
Not sure whether or not to call this one finished.

Wharncliffe

Again...painted over Easter.
Based on Wharncliffe Crags, near Sheffield. I spent a lot of my childhood there, starting young with my Grandad Cooke. He would always tell us about the dragon (dated back as far as 1685, as the dragon of Wantley), and we would look for the Dragon's Cave (which does exist).

Elegy

Living in the very 'cosy' studio, has meant that I have not been able to paint. The combination of this, coupled with cabin fever drove me to going back into school for the first 4 days of Easter to paint in my classroom. Trouble is, it's a thirty mile round trip, which felt like....going into school. Hence only 4 days. This is one of the results, which has just been expertly framed by Granary Framing in Huby , many thanks for the very quick turn around, and is now on sale at the beautiful Silson Contemporary Gallery, Harrogate , well worth a visit.

sketchbook Pages

I'm tying to keep on top of my sketchbook challenge; a page every day for a year. We are living in a tiny space for the next few months, so I'm not really able to paint, although I have been into school a few times over the holiday to do a bit. Trouble is it's a 30 mile round trip, so it's not really viable - hence the sketchbook.
There is no real theme; I'm going wherever, and with whatever, my fancy takes me. It's great fun.

Deliberate Practise

I can’t paint at the moment, so instead I’m working in a sketchbook. I challenged myself  (starting January 1) to complete a page for every day of the year (this replaced last year’s Fitbit challenge). The book is homemade, and I’m two days ahead of schedule, which is good, because I can’t always find the time to work in it. The upside is a noticeable improvement in my drawing (coupled with a broadening of the materials I work in), although some of the pages are a little ropey. The downside is, I’ve put weight on. So has the dog.
Here are some of the 79 pages that I’ve completed so far:
